Horror film clichés-CEFR

Read an article about horror film clichés to practise and improve your reading skills.
Definition-

Are you a proficient (CEFR level C1) English learner? You can practise reading in this part to improve your comprehension of lengthy, complicated books that cover a wide range of topics, some of which may be unfamiliar. Specialized articles, biographies, and summaries are examples of texts.

Example-
  • In horror movies, the basement is always a spooky spot, regardless of the type of house. Usually, something is concealed there or the terrible maniac has stashed their equipment there. Basements are typically damp and always dark. They are only accessible by a little stairway. Additionally, basements are always unsettling, even when nothing is in them.
  • In earlier horror films, calling for assistance or calling the police was challenging or impossible for the characters when they were in a desperate situation. That scenario is a little less plausible now that everyone has mobile phones. What can be done to keep readers guessing? No cell phone service! If you play a hero in a horror movie, it's nearly a given that you won't have any coverage at all during a crucial situation when you really must call for assistance. Or you can lose power while placing the call on your phone. or either.
  • Horror movies adore deserted locations. This can be a haunted house, an abandoned hospital, or a ghost town. There's something alluring about deserted locations. How did it feel like to live there? How come they left? Perhaps it's also because they are so quiet, which can be really frightening. Of course, abandoned locations are also useful to horror movie producers because it makes it more plausible that there will be no phone reception there as well (see above).
  • For hours, the hero has been on the road. It's becoming dark, and it's starting to rain. He finds someone suddenly standing by the side of the road. The company might help him stay awake. Giving anyone a ride is a recipe for disaster in horror movies. It is always the hero who does it, and it never goes well.

  • The horror movies of the late 20th century were particularly fond of using this cliché. Everyone is dead but one girl by the time the story finishes, which begins with a group of teens having fun. The girl is typically weak, timid, and naïve at the beginning. By the end, she had developed into the world's toughest and most resourceful individual. Almost always, the final female prevails.
