What is STEP EIKEN ?

EIKEN Test in Practical English Proficiency: Japan's most widely recognized English language assessment.
Definition-

Jitsuyo Eigo Gino Kentei (Test in Practical English Proficiency), one of Japan's most popular English-language testing programmes, is abbreviated as EIKEN. It is available in the following grades: Grade 1, Grade Pre-1, Grade 2, Grade Pre-2, Grade 3, Grade 4, and Grade 5. Since 1963, the total number of examinees has surpassed 95 million. Because it is recognised by over 400 universities and educational institutions in North America, Australia, and around the world, EIKEN can be used as a language skills certificate for study abroad.

What are the stages og EIKEN test?

EIKEN grades are assigned in two stages. The first stage consists of a paper-and-pencil test that assesses reading, listening, and writing ability. The second stage is a face-to-face interview-style speaking test. To receive certification, an examinee must pass both stages of a grade. For the two beginner levels, Grades 4 and 5, there is no second stage. However, beginning in 2016, a new online speaking test with recorded examinee responses was introduced for both grades.

How to prepare for it?

Examinees are allowed to keep their test booklets for future study, and recent tests for all seven EIKEN grades, including audio files, are available for free download to the public. Teachers and students are encouraged to use these resources to familiarise themselves with the format and content of the EIKEN tests, as well as the levels represented by each grade.
