Definition-
The English Language Examinations Board has been offering English language examinations since 1938 and provides assessments in English language learning and teaching. Every year, over 850,000 candidates from over 60 countries take Trinity College London exams. [1]
English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) for non-native English speakers (learning) and Teaching English for Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) for teachers of non-native English speakers are among the language certificates available (teaching).
Academic recognition-
The UK Qualifications and Curriculum Authority QCA, as well as its partners in Wales and Northern Ireland, have accredited Trinity ESOL qualifications. They are listed in the UCAS (University and Colleges Admissions Services) guide to qualifications acceptable as evidence of English language competency in the United Kingdom.
For entry to UK Higher Education, UCAS considers English language proficiency equivalent to NQF Levels 1 or 2 to be appropriate. The Trinity ESOL qualifications listed below are accepted as evidence of English proficiency by UCAS.
ESOL entry levels-
1- Entry level 1-Listening and speaking
5 minute conversation with an examiner - 2 tasks
1 task - up to 4 minutes group discussion with an examiner

Controlled exam - 24 questions divided into three tasks - 45 minutes
2- Entry level 2-Listening and speaking
8-minute conversation with an examiner - 3 tasks
1 task - up to 5 minutes group discussion with an examiner

Controlled examination - three tasks - 50 minutes
Reading
Controlled exam - 24 questions divided into three tasks - 60 minutes
3- Entry level 3- Listening and speaking
8-minute conversation with an examiner - 3 tasks
1 task - up to 6 minutes group discussion with an examiner
