Grammar : Adverbs

An adverb is a word that tells us more about a verb. It modifies a verb (The man ran QUICKLY). But adverbs can also modify adjectives (Tara is REALLY beautiful), or even other adverbs (It works VERY well).

Definition of Adverbs-

An adverb is a word, often an expression that generally modifies a verb, adjective, another adverb, determiner, clause, preposition, or sentence.
Adverbs typically express manner, place, time, frequency, degree, level of certainty, etc., answering questions such as how, when, where, to what extent etc.

Examples of Adverbs-

·         Jane sang loudly (loudly modifies the verb sang-manner of singing)
·         She left it here (here modifies the verb phrase left it- indicating place)
·         I worked hard yesterday (yesterday modifies the verb worked-time)
·         They often make mistakes (often modifies the verb phrase make mistakes-frequency)
·         He undoubtedly did it (undoubtedly modifies the verb phrase did it-certainty)
