Verbs are the action words in a sentence that describe what the subject is doing. We can also say that a verb is a group of words or sentences that is used to indicate that something is happening or exists.

Verbs are words that express action or state of being.

There are three types of verbs:-
  • Action verbs
  • Linking verbs
  • Helping verbs

WHAT ARE DIFFERENT VERB FORMS :-

Verbs can be said to have five forms in English

  • The base form
  • The present tense form
  • The past tense form
  • The present participle
  • The past participle

Base form - the base form is a type of verb which is identical to the dictionary entry. In other words we can also say that always form is the simplest form of a verb without any subject pronouns like "I" or "we" attached.

Present tense form - A present tense is a form of the verb occuring in the current moment that is represented by either the base form or the "S" , inflection of the third person singular contrasting with the past and future.

Past tense form - The past tense refers to events that have happened in the past.  The basic way to form the past tense in English is to take the present tense of the word and add the suffix "ed" .

Present participle form - The present participle refers to present action in relation to the time expressed by the finite verb. The present participles end in -ing while past participles end in -ed , -en etc.

Past participle form - The past participle expresses completed action and is one of the principal parts of a verb. The words like raised , thrown and done are considered to be past participle verb forms.
